BetterKbd

The keyboard that learns how you mistype.

BetterKbd learns where you actually tap each key, and predicts words in English, Afrikaans, Nederlands, Svenska and Español. Everything is learned on your device.

Set up

1. Open iOS Settings › General › Keyboard › Keyboards › Add New Keyboard… and choose BetterKbd.
2. Tap BetterKbd in that list and turn on Allow Full Access, so it can save what it learns (why this is safe).
3. In any app, hold the 🌐 key and pick BetterKbd.

How it learns

• Your taps: when you backspace and retype a letter, BetterKbd learns where you meant to tap. It keeps a separate model for two thumbs in landscape, and for your right thumb or right index finger in portrait. The hand icon at the top left shows which one it is using; tap it to switch.
• Your words: import old messages (text, CSV or a WhatsApp chat export) in the app to teach it your vocabulary.
• Autocorrect starts as suggestions only and switches itself on once it is accurate enough for you.

Languages

Turn languages on in the app under Settings › Languages. With colours on, the keyboard shows which language it thinks you are typing:

• English
• Afrikaans
• Nederlands
• Svenska
• Español

Tips

• Hold ? for ¿ ¡.
• Hold . for ! # , % $, and hold a vowel for accents (å ä ö é ë …).
• Double-tap space for a full stop.
• If the keyboard doesn't update after installing a new version, switch to another keyboard and back.
